Support youth in showcasing their Chinese writing skills, cultivating creativity, enhancing cultural awareness, and “maximizing their potential” in line with both Eastern and Western philosophies.

 

Eligibility

  • Open to individuals aged 11-30 from the Greater New York Area or surrounding areas. Citizenship or legal residence is not required.

  • Winning authors must be able to attend the award ceremony in the New York area in person, where they will also be required to present proof of their real identity and age. The exact time and location are to be announced.


Categories

  • Essay: Maximum of 4,000 words (including punctuation marks). 

  • Fiction: Maximum of 10,000 words (including punctuation marks). 

  • Poetry: Maximum of 100 lines and no more than 1,000 words (including punctuation marks). 


Groups

  • Youth Group: Ages 11-17 (relative to the submission deadline, i.e. born between February 1, 2007, and January 31, 2014)

  • Young Adult/Adult Group: Ages 18-30 (i.e. born between February 1, 1994, and January 31, 2007)

  • International Student Group (currently enrolled in a U.S. high school/college or above, i.e. graduating after January 31, 2025)

  • Grand Prize: $800 (Youth Group) / $1000 (Young Adult/Adult Group) / $1000 (International Student Group)

  • Second Prize: $500 (Youth Group) / $700 (Young Adult/Adult Group) / $700 (International Student Group)  

  • Third Prize: $300 (Youth Group) / $500 (Young Adult/Adult Group) / $500 (International Student Group)

  • Special Selection Award: a paper certificate

  • Participation Award: an e-certificate

  • Prizes will be awarded by check or debit card

  • One grand prize winner, one second prize winner, and one third prize winner will be selected for each category and group. 

  • Commemorative Book: All entrants will receive an electronic copy of the commemorative book (PDF file). Winning authors and other specially selected authors will receive a complimentary hardcover copy of the book.

    • Other entrants or non-entrants interested in receiving a paper copy will need to cover the associated costs (printing and shipping; the exact amount will be announced after publication).
