We are very pleased and honored to welcome Mr. John Lam, Ms. Anne Louie, Mr. Sunny Wang, and Mr. Kevin Yu, as new members to CMP Board of Directors!
Mr. John Lam is Chairman and CEO of the Lam Group, which started out in the garment industry. Today, Lam Group is one of the most prominent real estate investment conglomerates in New York City that specializes in the development of commercial, residential, retail, hospitality, and mixed used properties. Through more than 30 years of real estate operation, the Lam Group acquire over 50 buildings and developed 28 hotels, channeling hundreds of millions of wealth into local industry. Its hotels alone have created over 4,000 permanent job positions. The Lam Group has been recognized as the leading group in the New York City real estate industry, with 16 well-functioning and fully owned hotels), billions of total value and around $200 million of annual rental revenue. As one brand of Lam Group, the Real Hospitality Group has over 6,000 employees, over 75 hotels, and billions of assets. Its hotel management ranks 15th among the top 100 in the United States, and its hotel construction ranks 25th. In New York, the management and construction both rank 1st. Lam Group is the only company within the United States that functions as hotel constructor, manager, and owner. It enjoys worldwide reputation for its huge achievements.
Ms. Anne Louie is Vice President and Branch Manager for the TD Bank at Bowery, Chinatown. She started as a Sales and Service Manager at the branch 5 years ago when she returned to the banking scene in New York. She later became Branch Manager of the TD Bank branch on Canal and Lafayette streets before returning to the Bowery location to succeed the retiring branch manager there. Anne has over 20 years of banking experience at both large and regional financial institutions. Her previous services included Wells Fargo, Wachovia, PNC, and Chase Manhattan, where she had experience in managing established as well as opened De Novo branches. In between her banking career, Anne was owner/manager of a startup gift shop, which grew to 4 stores over a 10-year period. While an entrepreneur, Anne developed business strategies and obtained financing to support its growth. Combining small business and financial skills acquired through her banking experiences allows Anne to serve her customers with a deep understanding of the challenges and needs that they face.
Mr. Sunny Wang is the Managing Director of Broad Group with 4,000 employees and Head of its U.S. operation - Broad USA, since 2012. Broad USA is a privately held company headquartered in New Jersey, supporting the sales and services to Broad Group’s North America customers. Based in Changsha, China, Broad USA’s parent company Broad Group is a private manufacturer of central air conditioning non-electric absorption chillers that are powered by natural gas and waste heat. Sunny rose through the ranks at Broad Group. Prior to his current position, he was Regional General Manager of Central China. He started his career with the company as Senior Sales in a smaller branch office. Sunny has nearly 15 years’ experience in manufacturing industry, with a core focus on sale and marketing, as well as overall operation. Sunny also serves as an executive member of China General Chamber of Commerce – USA, and actively participates in a number of international forums and lectures on green production and construction innovation. Sunny has a BA in hospitality management from Xi’an Foreign Studies University, China, and an MBA from the University of Hull, Yorkshire, UK.
Mr. Kevin Yu is Board Chairman of the Chinese University Alumni Alliance in North America (CUAA), an alliance of Chinese university alumni associations. Under his leadership, the organization has expanded to include 73 member associations with over 100,000 member professionals in various industries. A strong believer in entrepreneurship, Kevin regularly organizes career development seminars, job fairs, business competitions, and cultural exchanges for CUAA members to network and showcase new business ideas. Professionally, Kevin has held various positions in the financial market over the past 30 years. He has been working in project development, training, and advising for many years, and has given lectures in business investment and project development at Harvard University, MIT, Yale University, Columbia University, Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania, New York University, the City University of New York, and Fordham University. Kevin earned a BS degree in International Finance from Nankai University, China, and an MBA from the University of Bridgeport.
We believe the rich professional experience and expertise of John, Anne, Sunny, and Kevin, and their passion in serving the community will become valuable assets to CMP. We look forward to learning from and working with them to continue and expand our services in the community.
On the past Saturday, December 14th, 12 aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners successfully completed our 2019 Small Business Bootcamp with their business plans!
Over the past 10 weeks, we covered topics including legal aspects of starting a business, commercial lease negotiation, financial projections and analysis, e-commerce and online marketing, intellectual property, and etc. Participants have developed necessary business management skills, learned how to refine business concepts, devised early-stage marketing plans, and prepared action plans.
Special THANKS go to our fantastic group of experienced professionals and government representatives for sharing their professional knowledge and creating an excellent learning environment to spark new business ideas. As the learning continues outside of the program, CMP is looking forward to continuing providing technical assistance in our students’ future entrepreneurial journeys.
Congratulations to the winners of our Chinese School 7th Annual Kid’s Drawing Contest! Look at all these beautiful and creative work!
This year we received a total of 468 amazing submissions from the 5 boroughs of NYC, Long Island, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Ohio, among which 102 drawings were chosen as winners. Themes for the contest were "Our Life”, “Chinatown in My Eye” and “Happy Moon Festival”.
Winners’ artworks are now being displayed at CMP (70 Mulberry St., 3rd FL, NYC). Please visit us during our business hours (Mon - Fri, 9 am - 5 pm) to enjoy these beautiful artworks. The exhibition will be held until the end of February, 2020.

Every year, CMP runs a Campaign for Self-Sufficiency to raise funds to directly assist low-income individuals in learning necessary skills to search and get a job, or learn to start and sustain a small business. All funds raised through this campaign go directly into program services including work readiness sessions, job skills training, small business startup seminars, and job placement services.

Our Career Advancement Program participants had such an engaging and fruitful day on the past Saturday, Nov. 9th!
Participants, that are looking to enter Corporate America or want to advance their careers in Corporate America, have received lots of valuable career advice and guidance from our corporate volunteer speakers and coaches in self-discovery and assessment, building their own brand, improving soft skills, job discovery and advancement, and tips of improving networking skills. We are glad they have found that the program was very inspiring and even exceeded their expectations.
We would like to give our sincere thanks to our volunteers who were so generous to have spent their Saturday with us and shared their professional experience and advice with our participants. THANK YOU ALL for helping our community members advance their careers!

Our new immigrant students had a great time and enjoyed meeting with genuinely caring and encouraging Regeneron volunteers on the Regeneron Day for Doing Good this past Friday, Oct. 25th at CMP! Thank you, Regeneron volunteers, for providing such a great opportunity for our students to learn about life in America, language acquisition skills, and culture of the workplace directly from working professionals like you.
