This special event will highlight the lives of two legendary giants, Corky Lee and Geoff Lee, who impacted the voices of the Asian American & Pacific Islander community through their work in film, music and photography. By sponsoring this event, CMP hopes that this tribute event will inspire others in the community to pursue their dreams and for the betterment of our community.
About Corky Lee and Geoff Lee:
Corky Lee was a well-known and well-regarded photojournalist, and social justice activist who documented Asian American history from the mid-70s until his death in 2021. He was a member of the American Legion (a U.S. Veteran Association), OCA, and Asian American Journalist Association. His work can be viewed in news media, films, television, and museums. His legacy continues to inspire others to fight for justice and equality.
Geoff Lee was a Chinese American musician and actor. He taught at Project Reach in New York’s Chinatown. He later returned to the rock music scene by joining The Heat, as a bassist and composer, playing at venues including CBGBs and Max’s Kansas City. Geoff was a community activist, and a member of Hamilton Madison House, a multi-social services agency. His acting career spanned over 60 roles, including Off-Broadway, film, and television projects before passing away in 2022 from cancer.
