  • According to Mayor de Blasio, tomorrow, December 23, at 9 AM, Binax COVID-19 testing kits will be handed out at the following sites. Each site will have 2,000 kits:

  • Mayor de Blasio today announced a new $100 incentive for booster shots. If you get your COVID vaccine booster shot between today, December 21, 2021 and December 31, 2021 at a New York City-run vaccine location or through the City's in-home vaccination program you will be eligible to receive a $100 pre-paid debit card. Within 5 days of completing your booster dose, a virtual debit card will be sent to the email you provided when making an appointment or registering as a walk-up. If you do not have a valid email on file a physical card will be mailed to the mailing address on file.

  • The CDC yesterday signed off on a recommendation from its advisory committee that people who have a choice should get an mRNA vaccine, either Pfizer or Moderna, over the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine after a review of new CDC data on rare blood clots linked to J&J. However, the committee reaffirmed that receiving any vaccine is better than being unvaccinated. Individuals who are unable or unwilling to receive an mRNA vaccine will continue to have access to Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine.   • The Key to NYC mandate that was first announced in August 2021 has been recently expanded. Starting 12/14, children ages 5 to 11 are also required to have proof of vaccination for indoor dining, fitness, and entertainment.

UPDATES (12/13/21)

  • The NYC Small Business Resilience Grant, funded by the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS), is now open for applications. The Grant is a $10,000 grant to help eligible small businesses recover from the economic hardships that occurred because of the COVID-19 pandemic.   • NYS indoor masking for places without vax requirement begins today. Last Friday, Governor Hochul announced masks would be required to be worn in all indoor public places unless businesses or venues implement a vaccine requirement. In NYC, that would include all restaurants, gyms and entertainment venues. Other businesses can implement their own vaccine requirement to avoid requiring masks. The mandate will remain in effect until January 15, after which the state will re-evaluate the requirement based on current conditions.

  • New York Reports Five Omicron Cases

    New York State has confirmed its first five cases of the Omicron variant, Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Thursday evening.

    Ms. Hochul provided basic details about the five cases: a 67-year-old woman in Suffolk County who returned from South Africa, had mild symptoms and had received at least one dose of a vaccine; two residents in Queens; one resident in Brooklyn and another person in New York City who had traveled recently. The woman in Suffolk County tested positive on Nov. 30.

  • New York City will require vaccination for workers at religious and private schools

    New York City will require employees at yeshivas, Catholic schools and other private schools to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, as part of the city’s latest push to expand vaccine mandates.

    The new directive, which was announced on Thursday, is expected to affect roughly 930 schools and 56,000 employees, city officials said. They will have to show proof they received the first dose of a vaccine by Dec. 20.

  • Minnesota Man Who Traveled to NYC for 2-Day Javits Convention Is 2nd US Omicron Case

    A vaccinated Minnesota man who attended a two-day convention at NYC's Javits Center last month is confirmed to be the United States' second omicron case; the first was announced in California a day ago.

    Officials have long said it's only a matter of time before the newest variant is detected in every U.S. state; that window appears to be shortening rapidly for New York, the one-time pandemic epicenter.

    Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday pledged not to overreact to the news out of Minnesota, citing vaccination as a critical defense in preventing further spread and the lack of data around omicron so far.

UPDATES (12/01/21)

  • Select schools across NYC offering 2nd dose of COVID-19 vaccine to kids aged 5-11

    Amid overwhelming demand -- and with concern growing over the emerging omicron variant -- New York City is offering second COVID vaccine doses starting yesterday.

    P.S. 67 in Fort Greene is one of three locations across the city that will be turned into a vaccination site. The clinics are offering second doses of the Pfizer vaccine to children as young as 5. The other locations include P.S. 40 and P.S. 124 in Manhattan.

    Right now, only 16% percent of NYC school kids age 5 to 11 have gotten their first shot, and officials want to dramatically boost those numbers.

  • UFT calls for more testing of adults in NYC schools

    New York City Teachers' Union is now calling for more testing of adults in school buildings. The UFT says testing is important to keep cases down in schools, especially now with the threat of the omicron variant.

    School officials say so far this year, they have only had to close three schools due to COVID-19.

  • Mount Sinai Experts Explain What the Omicron Variant Means for You

    While Omicron dominates the news, two of the Mount Sinai Health System’s leading experts, Judith A. Aberg, MD, Dean of System Operations for Clinical Sciences and Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases, and Bernard Camins, MD, Medical Director for Infection Prevention, tell New Yorkers that there is insufficient data on how easily the Omicron variant may be transmitted or whether it produces more serious illness.

    Here are some key takeaways:

    • Viruses constantly change through mutation. These variants do not necessarily present a significant new risk. Last summer, the Delta variant was found to be more easily transmitted, but people who were vaccinated did not face a significantly increased risk of serious illness or hospitalization. Many other variants were initially thought important enough to be assigned a Greek-letter name but later turned out not to have a widespread or significant effect.

    • Scientists are working in labs to assess how effective the existing COVID-19 vaccines are against Omicron. The testing involves taking blood samples from those who have been fully vaccinated and seeing if their antibodies neutralize the new variant. Results are expected in a few weeks.

    • One of the main concerns with the Omicron variant is that the number and type of mutations it contains may make some monoclonal antibody treatments less effective. Monoclonal antibody treatments are given to non-hospitalized people diagnosed with COVID-19 who are at high risk of developing more severe symptoms. Scientists are working to learn which treatments will be most effective against Omicron. (Click here to read the article.)

  • No cases of omicron variant in NYC yet while the City expands mask advisory "There are no omicron cases in New York City at this moment, it is very likely there will be," Mayor de Blasio said during his morning briefingtoday. "Our entire focus is going to be on vaccination."

    Flights from South Africa and seven other southern African countries into John F. Kennedy International Airport were filled with only American citizens on Monday as the nation's travel ban meant to slow the spread of a new COVID-19 variant goes into effect.

  • NYC Vaccine update

    • 88% of NYC adults have at least one dose

    • 81% of 12-17 year-olds have at least one dose

    • 16% of 5-11 year-olds have at least one dose

    • 943,000+ New Yorkers have gotten a booster

  • NYC Health Commissioner remarks

    • Mask advisory: Health Department strongly recommends masks at all times in indoor public settings regardless of vaccination status. (Ex: Grocery, building lobbies, offices, and stores)

    • No omicron cases reported in USA/NYC so far. (98% of NYC cases is delta)

    • Expect variant to be detected in NYC in the coming days based on research/data

    • Transmissibility: No evidence of speed and spread. Has similar mutations to other transmissible variants. Some reports indicating potentially rapid spread.

    • Severity: less evidence on how severe the variant is.

  • Child care vax mandate

    • City mandate now includes all child care and early intervention programs citywide

    • 90,000 child care program employees and 12,000 early intervention program employees

    • Deadline to get vaccinated: Dec. 20

  • COVID hospitalizations on the rise in New York

    As the holiday season quickly approaches, New York continues to see an increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, according to state data released Saturday, Nov. 21. Nearly 6,100 people per day are testing positive for COVID-19. That’s up 22% from roughly 5,000 for the seven days through Nov. 11. It’s also the highest seven-day average since mid-April.

  • 10 NY mass vaccination sites now offer COVID-19 vaccine for kids ages 5-11

    Ten of New York state’s mass vaccination sites will now be able to administer COVID-19 vaccines to children ages 5 to 11.

    • You will have the option to request your vaccine brand preference (Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson). Even if you received your first dose of Pfizer or Moderna through a different program, such as a clinic or mobile vaccination site, you can still receive the second dose at home.

  • Governor Hochul yesterday announced the launch of a new vaccine incentive program - 'Vaccinate, Educate, Graduate' - for young New Yorkers. Parents and guardians of children ages 5 through 11 who receive their first vaccine dose by December 19th can enter the State's incentive program for a chance for their child to win a full scholarship to any two- or four-year SUNY or CUNY college or university; the scholarship includes tuition, room, and board.   • The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), under the Labor Department, has released an emergency temporary standard (ETS) requiring private employers with 100 or more employees to mandate vaccination or weekly testing and masking for their unvaccinated employees. Businesses have until Jan. 4 to make sure their workers have received the shots necessary to be fully vaccinated.   • Mayor de Blasio today announced that pending final approval from the CDC which is expected to come sometime today, NYC will start offering COVID-19 vaccines for children age 5-11 starting tomorrow, Thursday, 11/4, at city-run vaccination sites. The rest of the sites in the city, including pediatricians' offices, pharmacies and other vaccination sites, will start offering the shots on Friday, 11/5. Since the pandemic began, CMP BOC has been playing a key role in helping small businesses in our community recover from the unprecedented crisis. We provided one-on-one technical assistance in business planning, marketing, management, etc., and online workshops to 600+ small businesses, and COVID relief loan and grant application assistance to 200+ small businesses. $2.6 million of relief aide was successfully secured.

Programs and Services for Excluded Workers

The New York State Excluded Workers Fund was a $2.1 billion program to provide cash assistance to workers who have suffered income loss due to COVID but were ineligible for unemployment Insurance or related Federal programs due to their immigration status or other factors.

Although Excluded Workers Fund has exhausted, CMP will continue to partner with New York State Department of Labor to provide following programs and services to excluded workers and their families: 

  • Assist with attaining Tax ID number

  • Tax preparation assistance

  • Financial Literacy workshop

  • Loan assistance translation

  • Digital literacy (basic Word, Excel, navigating Outlook, capabilities of a smart phone )

  • Food assistance, referrals

  • Healthcare programs assistance

  • Translation and related services

  • Vaccination information/assistant services

Does Your Business Need Assistance in Applying for NYS Small Business Recovery Grant Program?

CMP CSSC (Collegiate Student Service Center) will be hosting FREE Peer Talk Forums (中文海報） on Friday, 11/12, at 4 PM and Saturday, 12/4, at 11 AM, as a safe and inclusive space for international college students to share ideas and information, and receive support and resources.

Studying abroad is exciting, but could also be challenging. If you are an international college student, and are experiencing challenges from intercultural adjustment, want to receive support and resources, or simply want to know more people and expand your network, attend the Peer Talk Forum!

UPDATES (10/29/21)

  • Reminder: The COVID vaccine mandate has been extended to all New York City municipal workers, including NYPD officers and FDNY firefighters. City workers have until 5 pm today to show proof of at least one shot of a COVID vaccine. Starting Monday, November 1st, unvaccinated city employees will be placed on unpaid leave until they are able to show proof of vaccination. Some uniformed members at Department of Correction will face a later deadline of December 1.

  • Mayor de Blasio today outlined children's vaccine rollout plan in anticipation of the federal government authorizing the use of Covid-19 vaccines for children aged 5 to 11. Vaccines for kids will be made available at city-run vaccination sites within 24 hours of CDC authorization, and will be made available at pediatricians' offices, pharmacies and other vaccination sites across the city within 48 hours of the CDC's approval.   • The White House yesterday announced a new international air travel policy:

    • Starting on November 8, foreign national air travelers to the United States will be required to be fully vaccinated and to provide proof of vaccination status prior to boarding an airplane to fly to the United States, with only limited exceptions.

    • vaccines accepted will include those FDA approved or authorized, as well as vaccines with an emergency use listing (EUL) from the World Health Organization (WHO)， including Janssen/J&J, Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Covishield, BIBP/Sinopharm, Sinovac.

    • Fully vaccinated air travelers will continue to be required to show documentation of a pre-departure negative viral test from a sample taken within three days of travel to the United States before boarding. That includes all travelers – U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (LPRs), and foreign nationals.

  • The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday authorized booster shots for the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson shots. The agency also updated its authorizations for all three vaccines — Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer-BioNTech — to allow eligible people to get a different Covid-19 vaccine than the one they initially received, a strategy known as “mix and match.”

  • The use of a single booster dose of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine that may be administered at least 6 months after completion of the primary series to individuals:

    • 65 years of age and older

    • 18 through 64 years of age at high risk of severe COVID-19

    • 18 through 64 years of age with frequent institutional or occupational exposure to SARS-CoV-2

  • The use of a single booster dose of the Janssen (Johnson and Johnson) COVID-19 Vaccine may be administered at least 2 months after completion of the single-dose primary regimen to individuals 18 years of age and older.

  • Mayor de Blasio today announced a COVID-19 vaccination mandate for all City workers, eliminating the testing option for unvaccinated members of the city workforce. City employees must get their first shot by Friday, October 29. Starting today, city employees will receive an extra $500 in their paycheck for receiving their first shot at a city-run vaccination site. This benefit will end at 5 p.m. on the deadline day. Some uniformed members at Department of Correction will face a later deadline of December 1.   • The CDC recently released its official public health guidance for the 2021 holiday season, offering up mostly general advice on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The top advice is for Americans to get their vaccine shots prior to travel and gatherings. For kids ages 11 and under who aren't yet eligible to get the vaccine, the CDC recommends all those who will be around them over the holidays be vaccinated to protect them.   • Governor Hochul yesterday announced a new site, “COVID-19 Breakthrough Data Report”, which details the levels of vaccine breakthrough cases, and hospitalizations among fully-vaccinated people, in New York State. According to the site, as of data received through September 26, 2021:

    • 86,860 laboratory-confirmed breakthrough cases of COVID-19 among fully-vaccinated people in New York State, which corresponds to 0.7% of the population of fully-vaccinated people 12-years or older.

    • 6,083 hospitalizations with COVID-19 among fully-vaccinated people in New York State, which corresponds to 0.05% of the population of fully-vaccinated people 12-years or older.

ONA ESL Class is Now Open for Registration!

CMP has secured funding from the NYS Office of New Americans (ONA) and will start offering a new Free ESL program - ONA ESL Class to new immigrants beginning October 2021.

Classes will run from October 18th through December 16th. Services will include everyday English learning, work readiness, and referral to ONA hotline for immigrant benefits & assistance.

UPDATES (9/23/21)

  • While MTA has been requiring mask wearing at indoor train stations and on board trains, buses, and paratransit vehicles for over a year, the agency says the grace period is now over. Beginning today, 9/23, MTA will start issuing $50 fines to maskless riders on subways or buses. If you don’t have a mask, you can get a free one in the station.

UPDATES (9/20/21)

  • Mayor de Blasio today announced that NYC will be conducting weekly COVID-19 testing for unvaccinated students in elementary, middle, and high schools. The city is also changing its quarantine policy for unvaccinated students. Now, unvaccinated students will not have to quarantine when there is a positive case in the class if they are masked and three-feet distanced. The new rules will take effect next Monday, September 27th.

  • CCBA (Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association), partnering with CVS Pharmacy, will host a flu shot and COVID-19 vaccination event at its auditorium, located at 62 Mott Street, New York, NY 10013, next Thursday, September 23, from 11am- 3pm.

  • Governor Hochul today announced a series of universal mask requirements that apply to state-regulated child care (for children ages two and up), mental health, and substance abuse facilities. These requirements apply to anyone medically able to tolerate wearing a mask, regardless of vaccination status.

UPDATES (9/14/21)

  • Starting yesterday, September 13, NYC’s recreation centers across the five boroughs have re-opened for activities. Free memberships are available to New Yorkers who sign up between September 7 - December 31, 2021. The membership term will last for one year from the date the individual signs up. Proof of vaccination is required to use the centers: www.nycgovparks.org/facilities/recreationcenters

  • NYC public schools re-open today, 9/13, for in-person learning with no remote option. As of now, there's no vaccine mandate for students. All DOE employees, students, families, and visitors seeking to enter DOE buildings must complete a health screening before entering DOE facilities: healthscreening.schools.nyc.

  • Reminder: The vaccine mandate enforcement for indoor restaurants, fitness centers and entertainment venues begins today in NYC.

So far 18 employers from different industries/sectors have confirmed their attendance: healthcare, business, financial Services, retail, etc. Employers will share with job seekers information about their company and job openings, and will also answer questions that job seekers have.
