Advocating for Budget Equity

On Thursday, February 27th, CMP participated in the 12th Annual City Advocacy Day organized by CACF and the 15% & Growing Coalition. With 25 scheduled legislative visits, CMP met with the Speakers Office, CM Ben Kallos, and CM Paul Vallone. The legislative meetings consisted of advocating for the city’s most vulnerable.

Collectively the Coalition advocated for budget equity to serve the APA community in NYC. In addition to asking for an increase in discretionary funding to serve our diverse communities, our focused ask was around Citywide Initiatives to include digital inclusion and literacy initiative, college and career readiness, legal services for low-income New Yorkers, mental health services for vulnerable populations, support our seniors, and the Neighborhood Development Grant (focusing on small business and workforce development.)

Despite the windy and brisk day, at the press rally, we were proud and privileged to stand with over 100 of our colleagues and community. Along with community leaders, we were joined by NYC Council Members Ben Kallos, Barry Grodenchik, Mark Levine, Margaret Chin, Carlina Rivera, Mark Gjonaj, and Robert Holden.
